Project Spotlight: A Whole Home Remodel in Boulder Rising from Ashes

Some custom homes are built on fresh lots from the ground up. Others are rebuilt on years of memories.

These homeowners had been calling their property in Paragon Estates home for over 30 years. They knew what every changing season looked like across the surrounding landscape, every visible angle of the Flatirons, and exactly what made the land so special.

After partnering with Petra previously on a kitchen remodel, they turned to The Pack after the Marshall Fire. The couple wasn’t trying to recreate what they’d lost but to thoughtfully design a new home that combined what they loved with what they had learned about how they wanted to live.

A Home Designed for the Next Chapter

These homeowners could have looked backward, but they wanted to create a forever home that would support their current and future life stages, make a stronger connection between their home and the landscape they loved, and integrate advanced mechanical systems within a timeless aesthetic.

That goal showed in every design decision, from aging-in-place support to indoor-outdoor living areas that captured dramatic views of the Flatirons and Boulder County’s open space.

When it came to designing the floor plan, flexibility was key. It featured a primary suite on the main level, plus a second primary suite upstairs. Beautiful functionality was baked into the design, with wide circulation paths and generous living spaces to ensure accessibility later in life.

To achieve these goals, we incorporated a geothermal ground-source heating system paired with radiant floor heating throughout the home, along with a forced-air HVAC system to handle cooling, humidity control, and air circulation.

Advanced insulation and air-sealing systems kick the year-round comfort and energy performance up another notch, while solar panels with dedicated battery storage maximize the use of renewable energy and make the home more resilient during power interruptions. An automatic water monitoring and leak detection system adds even more long-term protection.

These systems all work quietly behind the scenes, so the couple can focus on enjoying the place they’ve called home for so many years.
